The SAC is the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Executive Board of WIYN. The SAC also advises the WIYN director. The SAC is mostly responsible for being informed about whether the instrumentation of the WIYN telescopes is working and up to date according to scientific standards and WIYN user research goals. The SAC relays this information to the WIYN Board and the WIYN Director, who both use this information to make decisions on what to do with various existing, forthcoming or potential future instruments.
The SAC is composed of one member from each of the 4 partners. Currently, the members are:
Wisconsin: Jay Gallagher
Indiana: Kathy Rhode
Yale: Pieter van Dokkum, Chair
NOAO: Abi Saha
The SAC regularly meets biweekly via teleconference and bi-annually in person (one day before each Board meeting). The agendas and minutes for these meetings can be found here.
The SAC (through the Board) also has a subcommittee, the One Degree Imager Science Working Group (ODI-SWG), which is dedicated to gathering information about the forthcoming ODI instrument.
Documentation written and prepared by the SAC can be found here.
