ONE DEGREE IMAGER (ODI) Status Updates

ODI News Roundup: March 2009

First ODI Optics Received:

The Dewar window. This large lens was fabricated by SESO in France and is the first of a total of 6 optical components in ODI. After inspection we sent the dewar window for anti-reflection coating to Infinite Optics, CA.

Instrument Support Package Fully Assembled:

For the first time we have fully assembled the mechanical backbone of ODI, the Instrument Support Package (ISP). The ISP supports all optical elements and has a 9-position filter exchanger. After passing this fit check, the ISP was completely disassembled, and the parts have been sent out for anodising.

Focal Base Plate Assembly Finished:

ODI's 64 detectors will be mounted onto a base plate made of Silicon-Carbide (SiC). This material was selected for its superior thermal and mechanical properties to keep the focal plane as flat as possible. After gluing in ore than 540 stainless steel inserts into the SiC base plate, we mounted it for the first time onto the Dewar shell.
